Hear PO Mitch Savino talk about the Academy <a href=\"https:\/\/sccpaaa.org\/?attachment_id=2692\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>How long is it?<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The CPA is a total of 48 hours long.&nbsp; There are 16 sessions, one session per week.&nbsp; Each class is three hours long, starting at 6:30 pm and ending at 9:30 pm. <br><\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>What will be taught?<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Classes are held on various topics, including Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8GLnbJL8suA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Use of Force<\/span><\/a><\/span>, Traffic Enforcement, Domestic Violence, Narcotics and Homicide Investigations, <span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-NJIS0123qc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">K-9 Unit<\/span><\/a><\/span>, Bias Crimes, as well as other topics.&nbsp;&nbsp; Additionally, students have the option of riding along with Police Officers from their local precinct for a tour of duty and\/or attending a demonstration at the Emergency Vehicle Obstacle Course (<span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1gOZ6aWJ7XI&amp;feature=related\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">EVOC<\/span><\/a><\/span>) and Police Firearms Range.<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Who can apply?<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Any resident of Suffolk County (21 years or older).&nbsp; Preference is given to people in active leadership positions in their communities (members of civic, community, business, neighborhood watch or tax payers associations, elected leaders, school officials, etc.).<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>What does it cost?<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There is no fee or charge of any kind.<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>How do you apply?<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The application is below, for your convenience:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Make sure to include a copy of your current, valid photo ID with the completed application.<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/sccpaaa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/2023-Civilian-Academy-Application-PDF.pdf\" class=\"pdfemb-viewer\" style=\"\" data-width=\"max\" data-height=\"max\" data-toolbar=\"bottom\" data-toolbar-fixed=\"off\">2023-Civilian-Academy-Application-PDF<\/a>\n<p class=\"wp-block-pdfemb-pdf-embedder-viewer\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is it?
