{"id":6381,"date":"2025-04-10T03:43:38","date_gmt":"2025-04-10T07:43:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sccpaaa.org\/?p=6381"},"modified":"2025-04-10T03:44:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T07:44:11","slug":"3rd-precinct-april-community-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sccpaaa.org\/?p=6381","title":{"rendered":"3rd Precinct April Community Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tuesday April 1, 2025 07:10 pm at the Brentwood Public Library-34 Second Avenue, Brentwood<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next meeting: Tuesday, May 6, 2025, 7pm at the BayShore\/Brightwaters Library, 1 S Country Road, Brightwaters<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well attended &#8211; approximately 40 citizens and 10 officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Inspector Dave Regina opened the meeting, welcomed everyone, and explained the format. It&#8217;s the same format, but with a slightly different presentation to help explain what&#8217;s happening in the 3rd Precinct.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Leadership in the Department was mentioned again:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Commissioner Kevin Catalina<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deputy Police Commissioner Belinda Groneman<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chief Robert Waring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dave reviewed his work history for those not at the March meeting and then had Deputy Inspector Mike Kelly do the same.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3rd Precinct Crime Statistics\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Overall, crime is down<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Specific local issues are being addressed via this meeting and COPE efforts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Violent crime is down 19%, and Property Crime is down 16.5%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A particular event on 03-03-25 at the Brentwood High School was presented\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> A student was reported as having ammunition in class<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The student stated he found them on the street and put them in his backpack<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Officers investigated and found that there was no evidence of criminal intent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The incident was handled as a disciplinary matter by the Brentwood Schools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An IFTAR event on 03-07-25 as part of Ramadan where 4 Muslim officers were honored\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Officer Tommy Shair 3rd Precinct<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Officer Asilan Kozan 3rd Precinct<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Officer Aly Elfaham 2nd Precinct<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Officer Sameer Malik 6th Precinct<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BayShore\/Brightwaters St. Patrick\u2019s Day Parade on 03-08-25 and bicycle patrols during the parade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An Enforcement Action on 03-09-25 was conducted at City Smoke Shop, 64 Carleton Ave., East Islip\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Numerous complaints\u00a0 resulted in arrests for the sale of a vape atomizer to an underage person and sale of Restricted E-Cigarettes to a person less than 21 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During the investigation, over 1500 flavored vapes were seized, which violated the NYS Public\u00a0Health Law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An Assault Investigation has been updated and is being handled by Homicide Squad Detectives after the victim died.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This was a completely random attack on a citizen on Main Street in Bay Shore, and the\u00a0assailant is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A woman was arrested for unlawful dentistry in Bay Shore on 03-13-25\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Anyone with information that may help further the case is asked to call the Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is a homicide investigation under way for the murder of a Central Islip man on March 15th in his driveway<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 15 year old juvenile has been arrested in conjunction with 2 robberies on 03-22-25 &amp; 03-25-25\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The victims had posted items for sale on Facebook Marketplace and when the buyer showed up at the victims home he displayed a handgun and stole the clothing and AirPods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 48 yr old male walked into the 3rd precinct and sat down on 03-27-25.\u00a0 He appeared in\u00a0distress and when asked if he needed help proceeded to produce a gun.\u00a0 Initially he ignored Police Officers commands to put the gun down, eventually complied.\u00a0 He was taken into custody, charged and transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suffolk County PD will not ask for your immigration status during any call for service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t give personal information over the phone, as this is usually a scam<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reviewed Pedestrian Traffic Fatalities from 2017 through the present\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They are in support of the 3 Es, Enforcement, Education and Engineering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pedestrians do not always have the right of way and need to be mindful of their part<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PROM IMPACT will be held on April 5 and 6 at the Police Academy.\u00a0 This is a charity event to provide dresses and tuxedos, etc. to students for use at their Prom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meeting Adjourned at 7:58 pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday April 1, 2025 07:10 pm at the Brentwood Public Library-34 Second Avenue, Brentwood Next meeting: Tuesday, May 6, 2025, 7pm at the BayShore\/Brightwaters Library, 1 S Country Road, Brightwaters Well attended &#8211; approximately 40 citizens and 10 officers.
