In attendance: Inspector David Regina, Deputy Inspector William Ginley, Officer Susan LaVeglia, Guest Speaker Officer Elisa McVeigh from The Homeland Security Unit, President Kevin O’Hare and Precinct Coordinator Lauri Murphy. 

Officer McVeigh spoke about how to be prepared if an Active Shooter Event takes place. “Active Shooter Event Quick Reference Guide” can be downloaded. 

Total Crime is down in the 4 th Precinct 

2/9/24- Smithtown Fire Chiefs award dinner acknowledging Police Officer Carter for her quick response to the construction collapse at 840 Middle Country Rd St James. Officer Wall was also rewarded for saving a gentleman’s life who attempted suicide. 

2/21/24~Sergio Visitacuion was arrested with grand larceny charges in the 3rd and 4th precincts for stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from Kohl’s in Deer Park and Commack. 

Speeding and drivers going through red lights remain an issue throughout the 4th precinct. 

Some local Social Media sites have misinformation about incidents that have occurred.

Dear Alumni Members,

Here are the major December 2023 and January 2024 statistics for the 1st Precinct which held its meeting on February 1, 2024:

December 2023:

311 arrests;

4 commercial burglaries;

4 residential burglaries;

14 stolen cars;

6 robberies;

608 car crashes with 92 leaving the scene.

January 2024:

343 arrests;

8 commercial burglaries;

3 residential burglaries;

12 stolen cars;

6 robberies;

489 car crashes with 70 leaving the scene.

Inspector Brendan Forte, the 1st Precinct Commanding Officer, made the presentation.

Here are several notable incidents:

There was a fight in Lindenhurst on December 20, 2023 involving a number of individuals.  A human nose was found at the scene.

On January 1, 2024 a Deer Park disturbed male aimed a shotgun at a family member.  A police officer with prior military training was able to disarm the man without any shots being fired.

On January 27, 2024 there was a fight at the North Amityville Fire Department’s rental hall where 10 rounds were fired at close range.  There were no injuries but an arrest was made despite no cooperation by the renter.

The Precinct will hold a free Coffee With A Cop event on Wednesday February 7, 2024 at the Old Navy outlet store at the Arches at Tanger Mall in Deer Park from 11 am to 12:30 pm.

The next Community meeting will be March 7, 2024 at 11 am at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library.  All residents are welcome.
