4th precinct Inspector Regina ran tonight’s meeting and was joined by Captain Roseo.

The Inspector ran a Powerpoint presentation that showed among other things crime statistics in the precinct. It showed that overall crimes have decreased from last year.

In July the SITE team which consists of highway patrol officers assisted the precinct enforce traffic violations in certain areas. Numerous moving and non-moving violations were observed and 208 summonses were issued.

On 6-5-2024 4th precinct units responded to a fight resulting in a stabbing at a bar located on Hawkins Avenue in Lake Ronkonkoma. Two suspects were arrested after leaving the scene.

On 6-8-2024 officers responded to the parking lot of the Smith Haven Mall after a caller reported a possible overdose victim in a vehicle. Upon checking on the person’s welfare drugs were observed in the vehicle. The subject was asked to exit the vehicle and refused. He then placed the car in reverse hitting an officer, a police vehicle and a civilian vehicle. The driver fled the scene and was subsequently apprehended arrested for multiple crimes including assault on a police officer.

During May and June the 4th, 5th and 6th precincts experienced a rash of commercial burglaries. Primarily pizza restaurants. As a result of investigations by several detective squads an arrest was made.

In June and July there were two tragic drowning incidents involving very young children in Nesconset and Islandia.

On 7-6-2024 4th precinct units responded to a one vehicle crash on expressway drive north and Edgewood Ave in Ronkonkoma. The sole occupant was transported to Stony Brook hospital and was pronounced deceased. 4th squad detectives are handling the investigation.

4th precinct crime section and detectives with the property/auto crime unit conducted a retail crime initiative at Home Depot and Walmart in Commack on 8-2-2024. A total of seven people were arrested as a result.

On 8-6-2024 the 4th precinct held the national night out at the Smith Haven mall. It was an indoor event this year due to weather.

Enforcement continues at the various sideshow/car gatherings in the precinct.

On 8-28-2024 officers responded to 911 call at a home on Brasswood Rd in St. James. Two victims were located deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The suspect was located and was charged with 2 counts of murder 2nd degree.

On 8-29-2024 an arrest was made in connection with a shooting at Jakes 58 casino parking lot on 5-31-2024.

The next community meeting will be held on October 1st at the Nesconset Library.
