Well attended – approximately 40 citizens and 10 officers.
- Inspector Dave Regina opened the meeting, welcomed everyone, and explained the format. It’s the same format, but with a slightly different presentation to help explain what’s happening in the 3rd Precinct.

- Dave reviewed his work history for those not at the March meeting and then had Deputy Inspector Mike Kelly do the same.
- 3rd Precinct Crime Statistics
- Overall, crime is down
- Specific local issues are being addressed via this meeting and COPE efforts.
- Violent crime is down 19%, and Property Crime is down 16.5%
- A particular event on 03-03-25 at the Brentwood High School was presented
- A student was reported as having ammunition in class
- The student stated he found them on the street and put them in his backpack
- Officers investigated and found that there was no evidence of criminal intent
- The incident was handled as a disciplinary matter by the Brentwood Schools
- An IFTAR event on 03-07-25 as part of Ramadan where 4 Muslim officers were honored

- BayShore/Brightwaters St. Patrick’s Day Parade on 03-08-25 and bicycle patrols during the parade
- An Enforcement Action on 03-09-25 was conducted at City Smoke Shop, 64 Carleton Ave., East Islip
- Numerous complaints resulted in arrests for the sale of a vape atomizer to an underage person and sale of Restricted E-Cigarettes to a person less than 21
- During the investigation, over 1500 flavored vapes were seized, which violated the NYS Public Health Law.
- An Assault Investigation has been updated and is being handled by Homicide Squad Detectives after the victim died.
- This was a completely random attack on a citizen on Main Street in Bay Shore, and the assailant is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court.
- A woman was arrested for unlawful dentistry in Bay Shore on 03-13-25
- Anyone with information that may help further the case is asked to call the Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS
- There is a homicide investigation under way for the murder of a Central Islip man on March 15th in his driveway
- A 15 year old juvenile has been arrested in conjunction with 2 robberies on 03-22-25 & 03-25-25
- The victims had posted items for sale on Facebook Marketplace and when the buyer showed up at the victims home he displayed a handgun and stole the clothing and AirPods
- A 48 yr old male walked into the 3rd precinct and sat down on 03-27-25. He appeared in distress and when asked if he needed help proceeded to produce a gun. Initially he ignored Police Officers commands to put the gun down, eventually complied. He was taken into custody, charged and transported to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
- Suffolk County PD will not ask for your immigration status during any call for service
- Don’t give personal information over the phone, as this is usually a scam
- Reviewed Pedestrian Traffic Fatalities from 2017 through the present
- They are in support of the 3 Es, Enforcement, Education and Engineering
- Pedestrians do not always have the right of way and need to be mindful of their part
- PROM IMPACT will be held on April 5 and 6 at the Police Academy. This is a charity event to provide dresses and tuxedos, etc. to students for use at their Prom.
