3rd Police Precinct Meeting opened at 07:08 pm on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at the Brentwood Public Library, not at the Islip Public Library 71 Monell Ave., Islip, NY as originally advertised.
Apologies were offered to the attendees as this was unexpected as a result of construction work at the Islip Library. Several people went to the Islip Library and were late as a result.

Meeting attendance was a little light with 20 civilians and 4 Police Officers
- COPE Officer John Wright opened the meeting and welcomed all. He introduced the other officers in attendance as well as the local politicians. Then he turned the meeting over to Inspector Mike Kelly.
Inspector Mike Kelly reported the following:
- The opening slide showed the latest statistics. Overall numbers are still down for the year. Murder/manslaughter is up from 3 in 2024 to 10 thus far this year. While a serious issue, all homicides this year have been cleared. They either knew each other or were somehow connected. There is no discernible pattern to the crime that would indicate a coordinated or serial criminal presence.
- On 9/9a domestic dispute resulted in the stabbing death of a woman.
- On 9/12 a traffic stop resulted in an arrest for crack/cocaine possession and an illegal handgun.
- On 9/14 a call to the 1683 Sports Bar & Grille, West Islip found a fight between the Pagans and the Demons of Hell ongoing.
- At the Club 112, Central Islip, the State Liquor Authority was called to the scene and Failure to display license, Failure to maintain records, failure to maintain security, and several fire code and food service violations.
- 2 subjects were arrested for a shooting last year. A fleeing biker was stopped and was found in possession of a loaded handgun and a knife.
- LIRR Bayshore Operation:
- On 10/2/25 the Narcotics Section led a buy, bust sting in response to numerous complaints of the drugs trafficking, prostitution, violent crimes and other quality of life issues
- 12 subjects arrested for 7 felony and 8 misdemeanor charges
- 2 confirmed gang members arrested
- Received information on a drug overdose death that occurred and is being investigated
- Also for the month of September, over 100 P,W,T’s were conducted (Park, Walk, and Talks)
- 6 arrests for trespassing – 21 drug related arrests (5 for felonies)-12 warrants cleared
- Human Trafficking Detectives are gathering information on known prostitutes in an effort to get their cooperation in the future
- Behavioral Health, Hands Across LI and Coalition for the homeless plannedorperformed outreach
- At the Heyward and Washington shopping area, which has been a problem area for drugs and vagrancy, a camera has been installed which has brought down the number of incidents.
The Central American parade in BayShore was a big success, the 3rd Precinct was present to control crowds as well as marching in the parade.
There was a large turnout of police for the Blessing of the Blue Shields at St. Patrick’s Church in Bay Shore.
It was again mentioned that the Auxiliary Police are a valuable asset to the Precinct and people can consider joining.
The Suffolk Marathon is scheduled for October 19. Plan accordingly to avoid road closures.
The meeting ended for one-on-ones with the presentation of the Phone Numbers and social media sites that contact the 3rd precinct for non-emergency issues.
