7th Precinct Faith and Blue

Dear Alumni Members,

Here are the major March 2022 monthly statistics for the 1st Precinct which held its meeting on April 7, 2022:

368 arrests;

5 residential and 6 commercial burglaries;

8 robberies;

33 drug overdoses, 6 fatal;

4 shootings;

16 DWIs;

78 drug arrests; and

4 search warrants executed.

The most newsworthy event was the man with an alleged gun at the Regal Theater in Deer Park on March 11, 2022.  There was a large police response and the entire building was evacuated.  No gun was found and the individual with apparent mental issues was detained by an off-duty Lloyd Harbor police officer, one of the 92 moviegoers.  Suffolk Police then arrested the individual.

There was a car meet up in Deer Park on March 20, 2022 and multiple summonses were issued.  The attraction is illegal racing on public streets.

The next meeting at the West Babylon Public Library is May 5, 2022 at 7 PM.

Respectfully,

Justin Cooper, 1st Precinct Coordinator

Bob Murphy attended the 4th precinct meeting on 4-5-2021.

Inspector Regina of the 4th precinct ran the meeting. Deputy Inspector Lawler was also in attendance.

The guest speaker for the evening was Kathleen Kenneally from the SCPD Real Time Crime Center. The center is housed in headquarters in Yaphank.

The center is staffed by representatives of several law enforcement agencies including Suffolk county police, Nassau county police, NYPD and DCJS. It is a collaborate environment with many tools at their disposal. Numerous video feeds from municipal cameras are displayed in the center and there is software used to enhance the videos and aid in investigations.

Fourth precinct COPE Officers Dono and McQuade also spoke to the group.

Inspector Regina noted that the precinct is dealing with an increase in commercial burglaries and car thefts and the steps that are being taken to reduce there incidents. He again urged residents not to leave their key fobs or valuables in their cars. Also lock your doors.

The numerous car gatherings in the precinct were also addressed. The Inspector stated that many steps are being taken to resolve the issues. The participants of these gatherings are coming from New York City and neighboring states as well as Long Island. This is an ongoing issue in several precincts. The precinct is dedicating numerous resources in order to alleviate this situation and described some successes in this area.

The meeting was conducted by Dep Inspector Reid.

The first order of business was to talk about the recent car break ins in the Rocky Point and Sound Beach area. We were informed that they have Persons of Interest and the community can help by making sure all cars are locked. They have increased patrols on the overnight shifts.

There were 432 crimes VS 520 for the same period last year which is a 17% decrease. There were 8 assaults, 5 burglaries and 1 robbery.

ATV issues continue and the PCT is always working to reduce the problem and are currently working with a count legislator to increase fines associated with violations.

4 drug search warrants were issued with 7 arrests made in March.

There were 245 arrests with 335 charges. 19 were DWI related.

The Pct had 213 accidents VS 255 for March last year. 12 were Leaving the Scene and 5 DWI related.

1389 tickets were issued VS 830 from Feb.

COPE will be offering NARCAN training to any community groups of approx. 25 people max.

Coffee with a COP will be April 14 at McDonalds in Shirley from 11 to 1PM. An additional session will be held in Rocky Point in April with the date to be determined.

The next Community meeting will be 1st Tuesday of May at 7PM.

Thanks to Bill Todd
