Dear Alumni Members,

Here are the major June 2025 and July 2025 statistics for the 1st Precinct which held its community meeting on August 7, 2025:

June 2025
330 arrests;
3 commercial burglaries;
0 residential burglaries;
7 robberies;
541 car crashes with 68 leaving the scene; and
10 motor vehicle thefts.

July 2025
386 arrests;
1 commercial burglary;
3 residential burglaries;
4 robberies;
510 car crashes with 59 leaving the scene, 4 with serious injuries; and
16 motor vehicle thefts with 6 in West Babylon.

Inspector Brendan Forte, the 1st Precinct Commanding Officer, conducted the meeting.

Inspector Forte told the residents that about 76% of the motor vehicle thefts involved cars where the engine was running.

There also has been a spike of shootings this year with a number of gun-related arrests. There were 7 gun-related incidents in July 2025.

Inspector Forte stated that the number of drug overdoses were up with Lindenhurst leading the Precinct.

Residents were again requested to forward tips to Precinct Headquarters for investigation and action. It was also noted that police patrols in the shopping centers have been a deterrent to retail larcenies.

The next community meeting will be September 4, 2025 at 7 pm at the West Babylon Public Library. All residents are welcome.

Meeting was well attended, approximately 42 people and 9 Officers which included Auxiliary POs

– Inspector Dave Regina opened the meeting, welcomed all and explained the format. He mentioned that Mike Kelly is now involved with Homeland Security and Mike Teplansky is the Deputy Inspector at the 2nd Precinct. He introduced Eric Dagastino, Matt McKee and James Lennon as new members of the 3rd Precinct.

– 3rd Precinct Year To Date Crime Statistics Presented
Overall numbers for crime are down while expanded rape is up slightly
Specific local issues are being addressed via this meeting and COPE efforts

– The Regional Program Director of MADD, Isai Fuentes, talked about the 45 yr history of the group and who, what they are and the services and programs they provide.

– A stabbing at Roberto Clemente Park on May 2nd was reported and detectives are asking for anyone with information to come forward. Wasn’t a random act, not a threat going into the park.

– A Brentwood woman was arrested on May 3rd for killing a man at the Bay Shore train station.

– A motor vehicle/motorcycle crash in Brentwood on May 11th resulted in the death of the motorcyclist.

– A shotgun fired in Bay Shore on May 7th resulted in charges of reckless endangerment and criminal trespass.

– Precinct SOT (Special Operations Team) Detectives conducted a targeted enforcement operation in and around the Bay Shore railroad station on May 13th that resulted in 2 arrests for possession and conspiracy to sell crack/cocaine.

– Hot Spot Policing around the Bay Shore train station on May 15th resulted in an arrest for possession of cocaine, heroin, Percocet, and a loaded stolen handgun. The person arrested also had a suspended license and 12 outstanding warrants.

– Hot Spot Policing in Bay Shore on May 30th resulted in an arrest for possession and criminal use of drug paraphernalia (crack cocaine, amphetamines and U.S. currency were recovered).

– 6 Other Hot Spot Policing arrests around Bay Shore in the month of May. One arrestee has been arrested 6 times since February 2024.

– Pedestrian/MV crashes reported as an 89 year old man was struck on Connetquot Ave., Islip and a 5 year old was struck in a parking lot in Bay Shore both on May 18th.

– Police are doing what they can regarding ATV/E-Bike and dirt bike use on the streets by citing and confiscating when they can.

– ShotSpotter reported an incident in Central Islip on May 25th but no one was located. Further investigation found a 13 yr old with a gunshot wound to the knee from that location.

– An E-Bike/MV crash in Bay Shore on May 27th resulted in the bike rider receiving critical injuries. A second crash in Kings Park on May 13th resulted in serious injuries to the bike rider too.

– Slides were presented on the definition of an E-Bike and who can ride them and where.

– Illegally parked vehicles parked in Brentwood on May 30th were impounded for the second time, the owner was cautioned about future violations.

– More scams are appearing regarding banking and everyone is cautioned to be aware at all times. Do not give personal info over the phone to anyone.

– The Puerto Rican-Hispanic Day Parade on June 1, 2025 was a big success and enjoyed by all.

– Auxiliary Police need volunteers and it is a great way to be involved and give back.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live.

On Tuesday, August 5th each precinct will be hosting a National Night Out. Please attend a Night Out event and make your presence, and that of the Alumni, known. Wear your SCCPAAA gear! We hope you are able to join us!

The following are the major May 2025 statistics for the 1st Precinct which held its community meeting on June 5, 2025:

375 arrests;

1 commercial burglary;

4 residential burglaries;

2 robberies with 1 being a gas station customer at the pump;

546 car crashes with 82 leaving the scene;

3 trigger pulls; and

17 motor vehicle thefts with several in Copiague.

Deputy Inspector Mike Koubec, the Precinct’s Executive Officer, re-introduced himself and conducted the meeting.

The Inspector talked about the incident in the vicinity of the Regal Cinema at the Tanger Outlets in Deer Park.  A group of young people got into a fight where a knife was used.  The rumble was put under control by a swift police response.  Several arrests have been made and the matter is still under investigation.

It was disclosed that there have been 101 DWI arrests in the Precinct this year.

Several residents voiced concern about quality of life issues in their neighborhoods.  The Inspector said that police are targeting the problem areas.

There will be no July 2025 meeting.  The next community meeting will be August 7, 2025 at 12 noon at the Lindenhurst Public Library.   All residents are welcome.
