4th precinct Inspector Regina ran tonight’s meeting.

SCCPAAA President Kevin O’Hare as well as board members Jay Jost and Robert Murphy were in attendance

The Inspector introduced Probation Officer Phil Battaglia who gave a presentation on Suffolk county’s probation department. The department comprises 220 Probation Officers and 113 non-sworn staff. It was a very interesting presentation and we learned a great deal about how probation works.

The Inspector then reviewed with the residents the police activity in the precinct during the previous month.

A slideshow presentation showed that total property crimes have decreased by 9%. Graphs were shown breaking down crimes by type of crime and hamlet. We learned that this information and more can always be obtained at suffolkpd.org. Go to the website and click on “Transparency Hub”.

A Flushing woman was arrested during a raid of a massage parlor located at 160 Commack Road in Commack. 

There have been an increase in residential burglaries in the Commack/Smithtown area. Entry is usually made through a rear door or window.

Two subjects were arrested March 8th by 3rd Precinct Gang Task Force Officers and charged with robbery 2nddegree stemming from an a shoplifting incident at Macys in the Smithaven Mall on February 12th. The subjects pushed and punched Macys loss prevention officer and fled in a vehicle.

Officers responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on East Main St. in Smithtown on March 10th. Officers found a single vehicle crash, overturned off the roadway fully engulfed in flames. 4th squad detectives responded and are handling the investigation.

Patrol Officers responded to the parking lot of 264 W. Main Street Smithtown for a report of subjects fighting. Officers arrived and found several injured parties that had been assaulted by a group of males involving a baseball bat. 4th squad detectives are handling the investigation.

On march 23rd a 4th Precinct Officer on the scene of a prior DWI related crash when his vehicle weas struck by another vehicle. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was charged with DWI. The Officer was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.

4th Precinct Officers and Narcotic Detectives investigated a drug dealing tip regarding a subject dealing drugs on Middle Country Road in the Centereach area. The investigation resulted in an arrest and two vehicle seizures.

The Inspector advised citizens that the NYS Move Over Law has been expanded. As well as slowing down and moving one lane over (when safe to do so)when approaching emergency vehicles we are now required to pull to the left for disabled motorists as well.

The next 4th precinct community meeting will be held May 7th at the Smithtown Library Nesconset Branch at 7PM.
