Meeting was well attended.
COPE Officer John Wright opened the meeting and welcomed all.
- He stressed that items should be brought to their attention before the next meeting by calling the
COPE Office at 631-854-8308 or 631-854-7333. This allows the staff time to research the issue and
have more definitive answers to present. John introduced the Officers in attendance. He requested
that questions be held until the end so that the meeting could proceed. He introduced the Officers,
Auxiliary Police and Politicians that were present. Then he turned the meeting over to Inspector Mike
Kelly.
Inspector Mike Kelly reported the following: - The YTD crime comparison reviewed stats for the week with the prior year
- A 28 day comparison shows crime down from 2025
- Next slide compared stats for two communities. Overall crime is down except commercial robbery
which is up due to a change in the law in classification. - The HWY SITE / High Crash Location Operation in the 3rd Precinct issued 122 total summonses in
the 3rd Precinct (103 were moving violations) in targeted locations as they have a high incidence of
violators reported. - 7 burglaries and aggravated assaults were reported and cleared by arrest in the last week
- Crime at the Brentwood Railroad Station was an area of concentration for drugs, and Endangering
The Welfare of children - An incident of loud music and assembly at Pilgrim State resulted in impoundment of a vehicle
- Drones are being used more now for investigating and tracking “illegal” vehicle assembly
- A woman was arrested for prostitution in Islip Terrace
- St Mary’s Church in East Islip , a woman removed the head off of a statue of Jesus. She was seen
and identified. She was arrested and charged with Criminal Mischief 2nd. - Ticket scams were mentioned where people are contacted to pay, but this is not the state who is
calling or sending letters. Do not respond to people asking for payments except through official
channels. - Due to the Iran conflict there is a heightened possibility of sleeper cells being activated and/or
people being radicalized. There are now detectives assigned to the JTTF, increased patrols at
religious institutions, Muslim, Jewish and Christian, more Officers deployed with long guns at parades
and large gatherings. Anonymous reporting to crime stoppers is stressed during this time. 800- 220-
TIPS (8477). - Upcoming Community Events include the Puerto Rican Hispanic Parade, Civil Rights Seminar,
Central Islip Public Library Grand Reopening, Senior Scam Prevention at the Central Islip Rec Center,
Alive by the Bay Festival in Bay Shore, and National Night Out. - A shout out was given to the Auxiliary Police for their efforts in support of the 3rd Police Precinct in
many non-enforcement areas, and asking anyone with the time to consider volunteering with them. - The Precinct Level Advisory Board (PLAB) was mentioned, with several members present, as they
help shape the future for the Precinct. They are looking for input from the community and conduct
quarterly meetings. - SCPD will not ask your immigration status during any call for service, including, but not limited to:
Victims of a crime, Car accidents, Domestic incidents, Aided cases, Landlord/tenant disputes. - The various phone numbers and social media sites were listed to contact the 3rd Police Precinct for

Officers.
