Here are the major April 2022 monthly statistics for the 1st Precinct which held its meeting on May 5, 2022:

325 arrests;

3 residential and 2 commercial burglaries;

30 stolen cars;

4 robberies;

13 drug overdoses, 3 fatal;

1 shooting, non-fatal;

4 DWIs;

44 drug arrests; and

1 search warrant executed.

Stolen cars continue to be a major problem in the Town of Babylon.  As a reminder, be sure to safeguard your car keys.

Dirt bikes and ATVs illegally operated have become a safety concern. 

The next meeting at the West Babylon Public Library is June 2, 2022 at 7 PM.  All residents are welcome.

Bob Murphy attended the 4th precinct meeting on 5-3-2022.

Inspector Regina of the 4th precinct ran the meeting.

The guest speakers for the evening were P.O Abbene and P.O Lyons of the Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau.

The bureau’s base is at Timber Point in Great River.
They are responsible for all navigable waterways in the county (With the exception of the east end) as well as land and beach patrols on Fire Island.

The bureau is staffed by 62 police officers and operate a fleet of specialized boats, trucks and quads.

They spoke at length about the operations of the bureau and it was an especially interesting presentation.

Inspector Regina noted that the precinct has seen a slight downturn in burglaries and car thefts. He again urged residents not to leave their key fobs or valuables in their cars and to lock your car doors.

The ongoing car gatherings in the precinct were also addressed. The Inspector stated that many steps are being taken to resolve the issues but it is a difficult task. He also noted this is a widespread problem not limited to Suffolk County.
The participants of these gatherings are coming from New York City and neighboring states as well as Long Island. The precinct is still dedicating numerous resources in order to alleviate this situation. During one incident 60 – 70 traffic summonses were issued.

The next community meeting will be held the first Tuesday in June and will feature a presentation by the MTA police.

The first order of business was to talk about the police release of an arrest in the Mastic Beach rape case. A 14 year old suspect is in custody and a second suspect is still being sought.
Crime is up 23% YTD with shoplifting and car break-ins causing the increase. Violent crime is down 34%.
There were 200 arrests with 251 charges. 5 were DWI related.
The Pct had 228 accidents VS 236 for April last year. 12 were Leaving the Scene and 1 DWI related. 1 was fatal in Shoreham.
1070 tickets were issued.
COPE advised that any community group may contact the 7th Pct and they would be happy to attend a meeting,
7 establishments were checked for under age sales and 3 failed in the 7th Pct.
August 2, 2022 is National Night Out and details of the 7th Pct plans will be presented at the next meeting.
The next Community meeting will be 1st Tuesday of June at 10 AM.

SCCPAAA President Kevin O’Hare participated in the “Bowl for Law Enforcement” event held at Larkfield Lanes in Northport. Suffolk County Police 2nd Precinct competed against the Suffolk County Sheriff Office.

Here are the major March 2022 monthly statistics for the 1st Precinct which held its meeting on April 7, 2022:

368 arrests;

5 residential and 6 commercial burglaries;

8 robberies;

33 drug overdoses, 6 fatal;

4 shootings;

16 DWIs;

78 drug arrests; and

4 search warrants executed.

The most newsworthy event was the man with an alleged gun at the Regal Theater in Deer Park on March 11, 2022.  There was a large police response and the entire building was evacuated.  No gun was found and the individual with apparent mental issues was detained by an off-duty Lloyd Harbor police officer, one of the 92 moviegoers.  Suffolk Police then arrested the individual.

There was a car meet up in Deer Park on March 20, 2022 and multiple summonses were issued.  The attraction is illegal racing on public streets.

The next meeting at the West Babylon Public Library is May 5, 2022 at 7 PM.
