Dear Alumni Members,

Here are the major February 2023 statistics for the 1st Precinct which held its meeting on March 2, 2023:

20 commercial burglaries;

6 residential burglaries;

31 stolen cars, 90% of the cars with keys inside or engine running;

10 robberies;

No shootings;

57 car crashes with two fatalities; and

28 assaults.

Inspector Brendan Forte, the Precinct Commanding Officer, made the presentation.  He said shoplifting in the big box stores continues to be a major problem and the Precinct, in cooperation with the vendors, is trying new approaches to store security.

The most newsworthy event was a two car head-on collision on February 22, 2023 in West Babylon.  One driver going east had a medical emergency and crossed into the westbound lane.  He was killed as well as a passenger in the other vehicle.

Officers from various patrol areas were present to address individual concerns of the residents.

The next meeting will be April 6, 2023.  The location and time to be announced later.   All residents are welcome.

Respectfully,

Justin Cooper, 1st Precinct Coordinator
