Deputy Inspector William Ginley was in charge of tonight’s meeting along with Police officer Susan Laveglia. 

Ms. Laveglia spoke about driving safety and how to remain diligent in stores as well as in parking lots. 

Winter preparedness should include driving up and down your driveway and walking back and forth in your walkway to deter thieves from knowing you aren’t home. 

12/7/23 Shop with a Cop took place at Target in Commack 

12/11/23 Menorah lighting ceremony in Smithtown 

12/22/23 Toy Drive 

12/20/23 Man commits suicide in Ronkonkoma on Wiggins St. due to divorce issues. 

12/21/23 Search Warrant executed at 221 Shelter Rd Ronkonkoma due to drug activity. 

From 2/8/23 one arrest has been made from the robbery at Gold Mine Jewelry Store in Smithtown. 

Unfortunately driving fatalities are up 11%

The next meeting with be at the Nesconset Library on 2/6/24 

Dear Alumni Members,

Here are the major November 2023 statistics for the 1st Precinct which held its meeting on December 7, 2023:

337 arrests.

21 commercial burglaries including 6 in Lindenhurst.  Many were smash and grab with broken windows at night.

2 residential burglaries.

18 stolen cars with 6 in West Babylon.

507 car crashes, 85 leaving the scene of the accident with 2 serious injuries.

3 robberies, all in West Babylon.

1 homicide in North Amityville.

Deputy Inspector Paul Hyland introduced himself.  He was last with Internal Affairs and is the new Executive Officer of the 1st Precinct.

Inspector Hyland reminded the residents in attendance to not leave their vehicle running, even for a minute, when not in the car.  He spoke about the changes to come with a new County Executive and a new Police Commissioner.

An underage alcohol sting was conducted at six establishments and all were in compliance.

Community Liaison Officer Russ Aue, who is retiring after 30 years on the job, received commendation certificates from an elected official and a civil group,

October 2023 crimes included:

  • 0 Homicide
  • 17 Aggravated Assaults
  • 18 Burglaries (2 Residential, 16 Commercial)
  • 4 Robberies
  • 20 Grand Larcenies Auto
  • 2 Trigger Pulls – 1 Victim shot (out of 2 recorded gun crimes)
  • compared to October 2022, when we had 5 Trigger Pulls (2 Victims Shot) out of (10 recorded gun crimes)

There were 382 arrests on 447charges in October including:

  • 8 Assaults
  • 14 Burglary
  • 77 Drugs
  • 4 Robberies

October had 21 drug overdoses with 0 fatalities,
compared with October 2022 with 22 overdoses and 9 fatalities.

October had 743 motor vehicle crashes compared to October 2022 with 619 crashes.

  • 0 fatalities
  • 117 with injuries
  • 99 leaving the scene
  • 6 DWI related

There were 16 arrests for DWI with 22 charges.

Officers wrote 2068 tickets.

The next 6th Precinct Community Meeting will be held in January 2024
